Helloo dear community,

I have ordered a Hybrid Drive for my new build, a Seagate STCL2000400 (2 TB Hybrid Drive kit), till yesterday, I was very happy with what I've bought, until I went looking for it on PCPARTPICKER, where it says it's a 5900RPM drive!!!! I bought it for gaming and I can only use a 7200RPM !!

The thing is that I couldn't confirm this info anywhere on the net, can someone please shed some light on the matter.

Thanks

Hey there, ntkocs.

For drive specifications you should always turn to the drive manufacturer's website for the most accurate info. Actually this goes for everything, not just drives. If you can't find the spec sheet there for some reason, perhaps it would be best to contact the manufacturer's customer support and ask for more info.

Keep in mind that many of today's diagnostic tools also detect the model, RPM and other info about your drives, so this is an option as well.

5900RPM drives are not that bad. Actually the only thing a drive is responsible for in terms of gameplay is how fast everything loads - e.g. when you start the game and in-game loading screens. SSHD drives recommended to be used as OS drives because of the way they work. The small SSD part is used to cache (store) the most frequently used files and app, that's why when you have you OS on an SSHD it stores a big amount of what your system uses and thus everything loads faster. However, when talking about games it won't be very useful unless you constantly play one game, because every time you start a different one it will not be cached and it will load with the speed of the HDD part of the drive.

Here's some more on SSHD drives if you are interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_drive

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Yeah Man me too, scrolled through Seagate technical specs for the drive, could not really find anything, I have still been looking for a reliable source for this info, all I can find is the ST1000LM014 specs and not the STCL2000400.

I even contacted PCPARTPICKER, they actually changed the title on the STCL2000400 to "Seagate 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive", not really sure if they checked before changing it or not.
here's the PCPARTPICKER link: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/pGsKHx/seagate-internal-hard-drive-stcl2000400 .

I am receiving the Drive next week, I am guessing the only way to know is to test it, are you guys aware of a way to test it inorder to know if it is a 5900RPM or a 7200RPM??

Thanks USAFret,

So I'll either wait for it to get to me and test it myself or Ill try to get someone who already got it to test it for us.

Thanks Colif,

I came to that conclusion too, thanks for understanding my question, I will update the thread as soon as I receive the DISK. and I'll run a CrystalDiskInfo and let you know.

Guys, Thank you for all your comments, I have just received the SSHD.

if fact, the product ID STCL2000400 means the kit, inside the hard disk it contains is the Seagate ST2000DX001 (which is 7200RPM) and a user's manual, I would have better ordered the disk only, I just paid 20$ for just a box and user's manual.....
