I just built a new PC, the mother board I chose was an ASUS z-170a and the on-board sound isn't that great compared to what I had before (Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3) so, I was wondering which soundcard I should buy? Ideally it should be less than £60 and I would primarily use it for gaming as well as listening to a little bit of music, I'm using Audio Technica ATH M50X headphones.
I was looking at the ASUS Xonar DSX and DGX but I'm not sure which is better or if I should be looking at something entirely different.
Thanks.

How about buying an external DAC/AMP instead. Check out this Schiit. http://schiit.com/ I added a $80 DAC/AMP (by FiiO, not Schiit) http://www.headfonia.com/fiio-e10k-classic-reborn/2/ and it is awesome and I can use it with my desktop, laptop or elsewhere. The dedicated soundcard is stuck in your pc...my 2cents.

I really love my FiiO and it connects my headphones and speakers..if u have questions ask away. Great for the price.

Is it worth getting a DAC/AMP instead of a soundcard though?

For headphones? YES! Soundcards have kinda died away..onboard can be good but a DAC helps that extra layer.
