Today i got my new ASUS R7 250 1 GB GDDR5 GPU to replace my old one (HD 6450), and i've asked on some website already if my motherboard is compatible with the gpu im gonna buy and they said yes, even i did a bit of research and i thought why not, it's not an old motherboard. So i bought it, i put it inside and when i turn on my computer, the fans are working but there's no display. I tried putting the old one back and its working but the new one isn't. And yes, before i installed new GPU i deinstalled old drivers. Then it got me thinking if ASUS gpu's are actually compatible with my motherboard? The specs below are:

Motherboard: ECS A55F-M3
Processor: AMD Athlon II x4 641
RAM: 4 GB
PSU: 500w

I searched on google already but i found nothing that might help me. I haven't tested this gpu on any other computer, cuz no one's are compatible with this gpu (Not ever friends computer are).

So you can not see the BIOS at all?

Hmm I don't know if you will be able to get a picture if you take the GPU out then stick a VGA cable in to the MOBO then monitor (if your monitor does not have VGA then stick in in your TV, they usually always have one) depends if the motherboard its self has on-board graphics as the CPU doesn't have integrated graphics.

Could you stick your old GPU in then go BIOS then fine PCI GEN setting and change that from Auto to GEN 3 and test your new GPU and if that doesn't work try GEN 2.

Its how I fixed my R9 series GPU display issue a long while back.

I'm a bit of a noob here, i'm using VGA cable, and i plugged it into monitor and gpu and monitor gets signal and then goes to sleep mode, nothing happens when turning on pc. I tried sticking the cable into MOBO but it does not give me display aswell, only from the old gpu. I also tried switching pci gen but i cannot find that setting in bios, if you can help me i'd appreciate that. Also note, i bought this pc almost 3 years ago and im thinking if i maybe have to update bios or chipset drivers or something? Cause it says on the box "Recommended system requirements a motherboard with free PCI Express slot and CORRECT PCIE chipset drivers". (And no i cannot even see my BIOS using the new gpu so i opened it with the old one.)

Okay sorry for double posting but i did a bit of research and found few things. First, my motherboard has only GEN 2, it doesn't have GEN 3. Then it got me thinking, it's been almost 3 years since i bought my pc, doesn't my motherboard have any kind of BIOS updates or something, and could it get my gpu working if i update it? I checked yesterday on ECS website and there were 2 BIOS updates, but i am not sure exactly if mine's up to date or it needs to be updated and will it make my new gpu work..

Maybe it's windows faulty? If it is i don't mind downloading Windows 10 since it says it's "Windows 10 ready" if that's gonna fix my issue.

Definitely sure that there's no issue with VGA cable aswell that im using at the moment.

Need help ASAP!

GEN1-3 is basically bandwidth and is backward compatible so a GEN 3 GPU will work in a GEN 2 slot but the CPUS that would of been in the board will be too weak for modern GPU's anyways and this whole bandwidth stuff only comes into factor when the GPU needs to transfer a huge bulk of frames/data (recording/rendering wise). Gaming wise it is has no performance difference. Changing your Gen type in the BIOS has been noted to fix some display issues with new cards in old boards.

Alright, checked the BIOS version, it says American Megatrends Inc. Version 4.6.5, Date 12/27/2011

Now about the GEN 1-3 stuff, as i said i tried to find that option to switch it between GEN 2-3 but i could not find that option.

It should be in your chipset settings section

Okay, decided to take a few pictures to look at what options are available in chipset settings.

I just checked online user manual on my motherboard, does not have any kind of option changing between GEN2-3, + i found trouble shooting in user manual and there's one referring to my problem:

"b) Power is on, fans are running but there is no display
1. Make sure the monitor is turned on and the monitor cable is properly connected
to the PC.
2. Check the VGA adapter card (if applicable) is inserted properly.
3. Listen for beep sounds. If you are using internal PC speaker make sure it is
connected.
a. continuous 3 short beeps : memory not detected
b. 1 long beep and 8 short beeps : VGA not detected"

I am not getting any beeping sounds.

Alright, i've called one guy that lives close to me, as he knows more in computers than me he'll see if he can fix this problem and we will test the gpu on his pc. I'll reply when we finish if gpu is broken or it's due to my motherboard.

Alright, the gpu is working perfect! I just tested it at my friends house and the gpu works! Got me thinking, ECS website holds few updates like VGA and stuff like that. Will that help me to get my gpu running it?

I didn't fix it. I just know the gpu is working because i tested it at my friends house. Now im thinking it's either outdated motherboard and haven't got any recent bios updates so i might contact ECS about it or PSU.
