On the Cheap: $500-600 "gaming" pc for my brother. Need suggestions.

I would shoot for an i3 over the athlon listed in the build you posted, and go with a 4GB model of the RX 480 for $200.

I might suggest a build which can be upgraded.
The X4-860Kis a relatively weak cpu(Passmark single thread rating is 1597) and the motherboard does not allow upgrades to a stronger cpu.
Current technology would be a I3-6100,(single thread 2102) any lga1151 motherboard, a 2 x 4gb ddr4 ram kit.
450w is sufficient for even a GTX1060. For stronger, you might want 500w.
Seasonic and XFX are excellent quality.

The build used a hard drive.
FWIW.
I will never again build without a ssd for the "C" drive. It makes everything you do much quicker.
120gb is minimum, it will hold the os and a handful of games. If you can go 240gb, or 500gb you may never need a hard drive.

I would defer on the hard drive unless you need to store large files such as video's.
It is easy to add a hard drive later.
Samsung EVO is a good choice.

Awesome. Thanks for the advice so far guys. I don't keep up with processor evolution closely so this is very helpful. Also I agree r/e the SSD. I'll have to think about a second storage drive for photos, etc.. but I may salvage one from an old PC.

Could you list a full build? I'm butterfingers with finding compatible parts.

That's impressive. I'd like to get the most bang for my buck though! Better processor, GPU, well, everything :)

Thanks.

I don't know. I'd still love it if someone put together a <$600.00 build though! AMD or Intel, either is fine.
