System Specs
- Windows 10 64-bit
- A10-7700K Radeon R7 APU @ ~3.4GHz
- 12 GB DDR3 RAM
- RX 480
- MS-7906 motherboard

I can tell my PC struggles on more CPU intensive games like Total War which I'm assuming is because of the bottleneck of the A10 processor trying to handle the RX 480. (Correct me if I'm wrong please).

My questions are:
1.) Is an APU to CPU upgrade possible?
1.) Would a CPU upgrade be beneficial to my current system, or should I just also upgrade the mobo and go for a better CPU?
3.) If I wasn't going to upgrade the mobo, what would be the best CPU I could use with my current system?
4.) Would overclocking the CPU portion of the APU help with CPU intensive games?

Thanks! :)

Solution
You are correct in that the CPU is your biggest limiting factor in games right now. For your questions:

1) Yes, but really no options of significant improvement.
2) Not really. You would be much better off moving to a new motherboard and CPU.
3) Athlon 860K, which is basically just a slightly higher clocked version of the CPU core in your APU.
4) A little, but not much.

Are there any decent CPU upgrades around $100 not including the motherboard?
