TheLastMartini,

The applications listed are quite demanding, requiring a healthy single-threaded processor performance and for video editing, /processing as many cores as possible. The best image quality is going to be possible with a workstation graphics card, preferably a Quadro.

For that budget, the cost /performance will be much better by buying a used workstation and upgrading it. For example:

Dell Precicion T3600, 2.80GHz Xeon E5 1603 Quadro 2000, 16GB RAM, NO HDD sold for $180

The nice feature of this kind of system is, it's inexpensive and quick to get working- adding a hard drive and programs would make that usable. But then you can later over time to make it really fit the work:

Intel Xeon E5-2680 2.70GHZ 20MB 8 GT/s LGA 2011 Eight-Core CPU > sold for $61

For that very low cost, you have an 8-core Xeon E5 @ 2.7 / 3.5GHz. After Effects for example has it's peak efficiency running on 5-6 cores- not possible with a 4-core CPU..

The T3600 can use two graphics cards and up to 64GB of RAM as well.

The Quadro 2000 is not brilliant, but it's worth $50-70 which can be applied to buying:

PNY Nvidia Quadro K620 > sold for $100

> Which has more than twice the Quadro 2000 performance.

Add a Samsung 750 Evo 240GB SSD for $75. That has more than 90--95% of the performance of the 850 Evo- very fast- for 20+% less.

Add a Western Digital Blue 1TB for $55. Fast and reliable for a mechanical HD>

Let's see where we are;

System: $180
CPU: $61
GPU: $100
SSD: $75
HD: $55
____________
TOTAL = about $550 (plus shipping)

-Quadro 2000 sale @ $50

NET TOTAL = about $500 (plus shipping)

Another good candidate for the system is the HP z420:

HP Z420 Workstation | 2.80GHz Quad Core Xeon E5-1603 | 4gb PC3-8500 | DVDRW > sold for $150

I have two z420's and they've been very good performers and 100% reliable and very quiet running. I think the T3600 build quality is somewhat better and for some reason they are typically less expensive than the HP z420.

With the right purchase you have a system that you don't have to research, order, assemble, wire, and configure from a pile of parts- possibly in use in a few hours, good performance from an 8-core processor that cost $1,700 new- that will produce good image quality, be expandable and reliable.

Make every effort to have two monitors.

Cheers,
