Hey there guys, this is my first time overclocking my CPU. Only reason im overclocking it is because it's holding back the 1070 I just bought.

My specs:
Case: NZXT H440
CPU: i5-3570k
CPU cooler: 212 Evo
PSU: Antec 750W

So I first overclocked to 3.8Ghz at 1.1V or so and after Stress Testing with Prime95 for 15 min or so and these were my temperatures as soon as I stopped Prime95: http://i.imgur.com/FCbDH1g.png
Max temps were 72-81 degrees Celcius.

Then I tried overclocking to 4.2Ghz at 1.15V.
My idle temperatures: http://i.imgur.com/cRIRMfq.png Which were between 40-49.
Then after using Prime95 for 10 minutes, here were my temperatures: http://i.imgur.com/bD5EEg3.png
The temperatures seemed pretty high, 80-89 degrees max. Are these temperatures expected?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

Solution
Those temps are fine for prime95, you shouldn't see them temps during normal use.
Keep an eye on the temps while you play games, as long as they stay under 80c it will be perfectly fine.

Alright great. And I've been playing Overwatch for roughly 45 minutes now and the max temps were between 69-78. So I guess that's good :)

I also have another question, my CPU usage for Overwatch is always around 80% while my friend has a 4670k and is at 60%. That seems like a pretty big difference for similar CPUs.

Thanks again

So I just noticed that my 212 evo fan was on the wrong side...It wasn't on the ram side -_-
My temperatures while in Overwatch were between 64 and 72.

So is 80% CPU usage for most games expected? Or is this somewhat high?

Fan placement doesn't matter assuming it's blowing air in the correct direction. Whichever side the fan is mounted on it needs to be directing air towards the back of the case.

The maximum temperature seems rather high, even for Ivy Bridge. Most overclockers, including myself, will tell you to keep the maximum temperature below 80C. Do you live in a hot climate? Do you have a sufficient amount of thermal paste? Did you remember to remove the plastic strip on the underside of the 212?

I figured of course some games are more CPU intensive than others but it seems like EVERY game is always around 80% +
And Bicycle, my fan was directing air into the middle of the case, away from the back :p I have two sticks of ram that were a bit too high, so the fan didn't fit properly, so when I was built my PC a few years ago I just threw the fan on the other side of the heatsink.

Also, after switching the fan side my temperatures were pretty much below 70 Bicycle. Though my room specifically is very hot, I did remove the plastic strip and I believe I have a good enough amount of paste.

Thank you everyone for your help.
