I'm planning on building a budget gaming PC for my son. My question is this. I have an Asus Sabertooth 990FX that I bought a few years back. It is not the Revision 2. It's the first one that came out. Here's the link --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131736

I know it supports AM3+ processors, but will there be any issues with me throwing an FX-8300 in it? It would be sweet if I could use it without an issue. I'm hoping to give him that with 8 gigs of RAM and an Nvidia GTX 970 I have lying around.

According to the ASUS support list for that motherboard http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_990FX/HelpDesk_CPU/ it will support upto an FX8350 with BIOS 1604 or later (Which means you will probably have to update your BIOS). That list is for ALL revisions of the Sabertooth 990FX.

A BIOS update shouldn't be an issue then. Worse case scenario is I can put the Phenom II back in to update if necessary. I probably have already done it anyway because I usually keep things like that updated. I can't remember. It's been a while since I've used it. :) Thanks!
