I had choice for 200e, same pricetag gtx960 4gb g1 gygabite or r9 380 Sapphire Nitro. 3 months ago I bought i5 6600k + gtx960 g1 for my wife but I needed to sell that since we needed money instantly. Now I wanted to suprise her again and I ordered i5 4460 + r9 380 due to low budget situation (no skylake anymore).

I see benchmarks where gtx960 perform better except one on DigitalFoundry youtube channel where r9 380 is slightly better by 2-3fps. My concern is will she have almost same performance on r9 380 ? I have really bad experience with coilwhine on 970/980ti in past, including that sold 960 g1 which was terrible in terms of coilwhine so I decided to go for AMD after 10 years once again.

Did I made mistake ? I don't care about power consumption.

I ordered Coolermaster G650M RS650 PSU due to fact that this card need 500W and with old skylake I sold EVGA G2 750W which is by far better with +7 longer warranty but..

Just info how badly I screw up ?

Solution
The R9 380 and GTX 960 are almost identical in performance, and the G650M, while not amazing, is an adequate PSU. Some games specifically favor Nvidia, others favor AMD, and some newer games support DX12 Asynchronous Compute technology, which boosts AMD cards' performance by a decent margin but not Nvidia cards.

No,the performance of these cards are around the same. Its down to luck for coil whine atm.if you can wait for the next release of polaris and pascal it would out perform for around the same price. In the end its really down to who you prefer.

Cheers
:)

No mistake. The R9 380 is a worthy competitor to the 960, sometimes exceeding it.

Thanks guys. I feel slightly better and I guess I can stop bothering with benchmarks.

I would wait for polaris or pascal but PS4 upgrade to Neo if it's really good is my priority. I have my rig which is perfectly fine for any game, I wanted something for her to run games like H1Z1 (which is EA so I get that), Evolve, Dota 2, Diablo 3 etc with some exceptions as Rise of the Tomb Raider or The Division in 1440x900 medium settings if 1080p med+ is problem. So 960 was really just what she needed and nothing more at the moment. Hopefully I don't get dissapointed neither.

Not sure about overclocking AMD cards but I guess something like +100mhz on core can be achieved with solid card. Also hopefully this one get backplate since older models on release date didn't had one for some reason.

The 380 will do just fine with teh scenarios you listed. Forget about benchmarks. They do not tell the whole story and can be very much misleading sometimes.
