Hey guys, my build is as follows;

i5 2500k@3.7Ghz (Max my motherboard allows :l )
Hyper 212 Evo
MSI R9 380 2GB
SanDisk 240GB SSD
500GB WDC HDD
AsRock H61M-VG4 LGA 1155
600W Corsair PSU
8GB DDR3 (effective 1333Mhz)

So i managed to get myself some spare cash, enough to maybe upgrade my PC to something newer. I play games at 1080p, generally modding Skyrim, and Fallout 4 with the occasional shooter such as Battlefield 1 which is coming out soon.

I was thinking either i could sell my current core parts (CPU, MOBO and RAM) for around £120 on eBay or to a mate, which would leave me with £330 to purchase an i5 6600k, 16GB HyperX Fury Ram and a Asrock Z170A-X1 motherboard, which would me allow to overclock higher than my current OC of my 2500K.

On the other hand i could sell my R9 380 for around £100 leaving me with £310 for a new gpu. I've seen a R9 390X for £250 and a Palit GTX 980 Super Jetstream for the same price, which would leave me with enough money to possibly get a new OC'able motherboard for my 2500k, after selling my current motherboard for maybe £20 (the prices are through the roof for any decent lga 1155.)

What do you guys think i should do? What is the best option for the future, should i take the plunge by upgrading to Skylake to a newer socket motherboard and the next generation of DDR4 ram, do you guys think the LGA 1151 will be used for future CPU's by Intel?
Or should i stick with Sandy Bridge, and upgrade my graphics card, i dont plan to upgrade my monitor anytime soon.

PS;(Sorry for all the questions, also note that i cant use new-egg or anything like that since i am from the UK)

Thanks in advance!

Solution
No, because you when upgrade the processor, you'll need a different motherboard socket. So I'd wait and do it all at once. Your processor is fine. It won't bottleneck the 1060.

If you want a new graphics card you should go for the RX 480 or wait for the GTX 1060 in your price range. I think you will want to look into upgrading your processor and motherboard after the graphics card upgrade. That motherboard + processor combo sounds good.

Hey thanks for the reply, here in the UK the RX 480 is £220,and i expect the GTX 1060 will be equal or lagging slightly behind the 980 and will probably cost more than the 980, so you think i should upgrade my gpu and keep my current motherboard for maybe another year? Or also buy a Z77 motherboard with the new gpu?

The GTX 1060 will be $250 which is £225, and perform better than / equal to the GTX 980 according to NVIDIA. It releases on July 19th. And yes I'd upgrade the GPU and hold on to the motherboard and CPU until you have the cash to upgrade them (together).

You think its worth it grabbing a Z77 motherboard with a GPU to take advantage of my unlocked CPU and SATA 3 speeds? Or should i just hold out?
