Solution
yes for sure you have to buy a new motherboard
if you don't there will be botlenecking and the card won't work properly
make sure that your new motherboard have a pcie 3.0 slot

As long as Dell did not made a custom mother board (probably not) for you pc model you will be able to upgrade. To make sure about that try to find the model of your motherboard.
P.S Check if the Pus is compatible with the gtx 1070, in case you need a new one.

Well it was a dell xps 8700. i built a custom PC but kept the motherboard because of low funds at the time and my gtx 960 never had a problem with it. I want to upgrade my motherboard but if i dont have to at the moment then i wont.
