I'm planning on building a new computer specifically for gaming. I'll be using these parts for sure.

EVGA 1070 (although I may get one of the liquid cooled MSI cards)
Intel i5 6600k Skylake

I was planning on getting one of the Corsair PSUs since they're on sale, but I don't know if there any good.
I'm kind of lost as to what brands/components to go with as far as the motherboard, power supply, and RAM (I do plan on running DDR4)

Any advice or help on whatparts or brands is greatly appreciated!

CX and VS series of corsair PSUs are not suitable for gaming and overclocking.
You realize that for the price of liquid cooled MSI 1070, you can buy GTX 1080 ?
you can do it yourself. Corsair has this "hybrid" cooler for much less :) there are also other options.
BTW, AFAIK, EVGA is the only company that permits removing cooler without voiding warranty.
To help you with brands, is difficult. Much easier to select best components for a specific budget.

I'm not sure how you going to fit GTX 1070 into a complete build under 1000$.
the cheapest EVGAS card is 420right now. The less expensive cpu fo such build is i5-6600K ~240$ + 30cooler, MB ~100$, Memory ~50, PSU ~ 70-90, case ~50, storage at least 50$.
No Windows or peripherals included and we are already at the limit of the budget.
Look at the list below and it does not have any storage and computer case:

Is the i7 necessary? I ran the numbers with an i5 6600k and I've already got a case (aswell as an SSD and monitor) which comes out to $926. Am I missing something? Also, what would be the difference between the motherboard you posted and some of the more pricier ones on Newegg ($130-150). And what's difference between crucial ballostix and say, ripjaws? Sorry if any of these questions are dumb :/

The i7 probably isnt necessary but that is what you stated you wanted in your first post. As far as memory goes everyone has their go to brand. Crucial , G.Skill.... etc. for me it just comes down to price.

i7 is not must, it's just better with.
From my experience, people replace graphics cards much more often than CPUs. So imho, it would be better to get GTX 1060 with better CPU.
Regarding the MB, if possible I'd go for more expensive. They have better power delivery to CPU (higher clocks), better sound (important if you use headphones) and overall built of better components.
Memory is very complicated. If you are not going to overclock it, it's less important. I went for cheapest at that speed. There are also timings. They too affect performance. Lower timings with the same clock = faster.
What is your monitor ?
