I just applied fresh thermal paste on my cpu and it's still tells me cpu overheating error when it starts up. When i check the temperature it says 89 degrees celcius

Solution

I figured it out. I checked the thermal paste and apperantly i didnt put enough pressure and it didnt spread. I reapplied it and its fixed. Thanks anyways. You were very helpful =)

It's maybe a year or two old. I got this problem after my psu broke. When i heard the noise the first thing i checked was the cpu. I broke the seal and i just recently replaced the psu and after turning it on i got the cpu overheating warning.

Hello... OK... Good info...PS problem/failure, Maybe we need to just clear and reset your MB CMOS then... B /

Wanna try a Battery removal AND CMOS clear?
Take your time here and be slow and careful to your MB... look in your MB manual/Pdf for pictures and location of the pins. B )
1) un-plug PS from wall.
2) remove MB battery
3) place jumper pins/switch on MB to clear the capacitors... for ~3 mins
4) remove Jumper/switch
5) re-install battery
6) plug back in PS
7) Re- boot can you see any messages B /

Im not sure what you mean by MB(if you dont mind explaining). But if it is related to the PSU the psu works great. Im not sure its the problem unless there is something i dont know about

Ok so i removed the battery then did the jumper thing and it reset my bios but my cpu temp is still high

Hello... Thx for un=happy img... B o make sure the CPU fan is attached to the CPU_Fan MB connector, for proper temperature/fan control. B /

Well you have too small of a Heatsink, too small of a fan... AND them DAM Plastic Push Pins... that's three strikes against that CPU cooler B (

I would suggest updating them to a Screw down, larger Fan and more metal fins... you will need 1155 mounting, where can you shop from?

I cant spend any more money right now. I just spent too much on this computer just to get it to work. My computer worked fine before the psu broke. It doesnt make sense to why it wont work now. I never used to get overheating errors

Hello... Well that was Yesterday in life and this is Today... Thermal paste is not going to change a thing here...
1) Can you look behind the MB and make sure all them DAM Plastic Push Pins are through the MB?
2)
*****I ask once again are you sure the CPU fan is connected to the MB CPU connector?*****

3) Also did you Miss apply the Thermal paste? And put AIR bubbles into your Thermal paste application... all you need is a thin film of it.
