I7 4770 to a 3960x?

How much performance would I increase? I also plan on over clocking the 3960x to 4.7ghz. I do 1080p at 144hz. I also edit, and render videos.

With video editing and rendering you'd get a decent performance increase, but I hope you know that these two CPUs don't use the same socket (you'd need a different motherboard for the 3960X).

The 3960X would perform quite a bit better in video editing and rendering, but unless you can get it used/discount you're better off with newer i7 Extreme CPUs.

Gaming you would likely see a decrease across nearly all game as that cpu is about 10% slower at same clock speed. Rendering you would see some increase for sure however.

I believe your best bet would be to get a new i7 6700k and OC it for a good balance between gaming improvement and editing improvement.

If you only care about editing, then extreme edition are really good, but for gaming the 6700k can achieve higher clocks, and is usually better (while being quite cheaper).

I don't recommend anything starting with numer 3, because it's already quite "old"
