This is my first time posting on this website (although I read posts often), so I apologize if this post is not in the correct location.

Starting this morning, my computer has suddenly began crashing during 3D games. Once the game starts, it'll crash sometimes immediately, sometimes 30 minutes in; a little haphazard.

First, the screen turns black, followed by the sound stuttering after a few seconds. After it'll either crash or leave it up to me to hit the power button and restart. Once back up again, it'll boot at a really low resolution (1028 x 764), and my nvidia software won't recognize my card. It takes another reboot to get my card running and my normal resolution back. I have no idea where to go with this issue.

Things I have tried:
- Update GPU drivers
- Update Windows
- Restore Windows to earlier date
- Reset PC
- Verify game caches / Reinstall games
- Monitor the temp. (crashed at 45 C. last time)
- Run antivirus
- Check firewall (wasn't blocking anything but Spotify, apparently)

I'm now looking at Event Viewer, and apparently dwm.exe failed ~10 times, followed by windows UI and then the program I was using to monitor heat. While trying to start up, the computer failed to launch the GPU, and reverted to on-board graphics. Also, the Service Control Manager had 4 processes terminate unexpectedly right before the crash, they were: sync host, contact data, user data storage, and user data access. Lastly, some server was not granted rights or something; I didn't quite understand the jargon.

I have no idea where to go with this information, so I was wondering if anyone here would have any insight. I've had no prior issues with this card, so I'm pretty confused. Future thanks to any help.

Edit:
Another crash later, and the "access not granted" error occured hundreds of times during the crash, so I figured I'd post the error - "The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID".

UPDATE:
So I guess the display errors are related to the "Nvlddmkm" display driver crashing / becoming unresponsive.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 (EVGA)
