So I recently upgraded my computer to a skylake design. I went through hours of hassle getting everything working, dealing with a borked hdd, bad ssd install and then win 7 crappery.

Long story short, part of my problems were that my win7 install usb has no native usb 3.0 support (apparently). I decided to wipe my drives and do a proper, clean install of 8.1 on my ssd, enabling 3.0 support and a few other mobo options.

The problem is that the driver cd that came with the mobo doesn't work on 8.1. When trying to use autorun, i get the error "Express install is not supported on this operating system". I know the disk is fine because autorun worked on another 8.1 harddrive.

I'd just go and find the drivers myself, but I can't install the network drivers included on the disk and I'd prefer to have the full package offered with the mobo.

Can anyone help me out here? How can I get this cd to run?

Solution
Are the OS build numbers the same on the two drives?

To quote this post, "Windows 8 has the version 6.2.9200, Windows 8.1 has the version 6.3.9600". Version number can be found by pressing Win+R to open run, type in regedit and press Enter. Be careful to view but not change! Version number can be found here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>Windows NT>CurrentVersion

If the CD is made for Windows 7, this could cripple motherboard functions until undone. Sometimes it can't be undone because Windows 8 is full of bugs (as is 10) and sometimes fails to uninstall a driver properly.

Thanks for the quck replies.

I've tried finding the networking drivers on the disk but they have no run or setup. The few other drivers that do crash immediately after starting

My mobo is a GA Z170x gaming 6. Cool mobo, just annoyed the drivers dont work on a win8.1 machine, considering how high end it ia.

I'll see if I can get my hands on another pc to download some drivers, but as I said I'd like to use all the optional stuff included on the disk.

Just double checked that the cd works by booting off another hdd with the same os and even the same build number. Works fine on the second, but not my primary.

I have no idea why its not supporting the os on my primary.
