Configuration:
ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer Motherboard
AMD FX-8320 @ 3.5 GHz CPU
Phanteks PH-TC14PE 78.1 CFM CPU Cooler
AMD R9 2400 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory
Crucial M550 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (primary drive)
Seagate 1GB hard drive (secondary)
Sapphire Radeon R7 260X 2GB Video Card
Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case
EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Pioneer BDC-207DBK Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer

This build has run fine for 1.5 years, only minor hiccups (occasional freeze). I was browsing the web when my monitors suddenly went black, no response. Tried to reboot, but PC wouldn't boot up. I kept trying, and eventually, I got a partial boot into Windows, but it froze before loading. I repeatedly powered off and on, mostly with no response at all (not even seeing ASRock logo most of the time), occasionally partial loads, and occasionally getting as far as logging into Windows and opening a browser before freezing/blackout.

I cleared CMOS to reset to defaults, no effect. Tried to get into UEFI, and after many tries it got there but froze. I swapped the positions of my memory sticks to no effect. Unfortunately I have no spare parts to swap/test with.

When I could get into Windows, sound stopped after blackouts so I don't think it was the GPU. The UEFI freeze also continued to show picture, not blackout. I could sometimes get into Windows, so I don't think it was a hard drive/installation problem - it seems like it would be more consistent. I'm thinking it might be the motherboard since it froze even in UEFI, but I don't know how to confirm this. I suppose the only other element in the loop was the power supply.

I'm interested in what others think, and if I can save the build, what next steps should I take to diagnose/fix?

Thanks!

''..HELP US PLEASE SOMEONE..ASRock....''

good luck there , I have 2 asrocks not to say there bad but asrock now forgets about you and some of there products and if you contact there support just be ready for the good old copy and paste answer and towards your fault or the best reply I got from them was '' well next time choose a different model that we feel like supporting'' ????

I got a z87 extreme 6 and a AMD board all ready been removed form there site and no current up to date support

http://www.asrock.com/mb/index.asp?s=Current

but funny how the z87 extreme4 is still fully supported and updated ? I guess with them the asrock apple did not fall too far from the asus tree [ LOL ]

so don't expect too much...

so don't expect too much from them they got your money and you got there product - have a nice day [you don't even get that from them ]

so when you buy a asorck product all you can do is hope they stick with you and not just drop you like a hot potato and leave you holding the bag

anyway may try another PSU ?? it could be failing to deliver full stable power and could cause these type of issues ? maybe a buddy got a spare psu you can borrow to test with ??

if you think its a hard drive or os issue try a un hook the hard drive form the board and see if it will boot to a live dvd of Linux ?

You can download the Linux Mint operating system for free. It comes as an ISO file
which you need to burn to a blank DVD. The liveDVD is then bootable and provides a
fully-functional operating system which you can try without affecting your PC. In
layman's terms, when you put Linux Mint on a DVD and place it into your computer, you
can try it out while leaving your current system intact.

I like to keep one handy just in case ..

good luck
