I keep reading statements like this and I don't follow. Can someone dumb it down for me?

According to NVIDIA, the high-performance throughput of the GP100 GPU is now bound by the CPU clock speed. A Core i7-6700K with faster clocks of 4.0 GHz fares well with the GP100 GPU compared to Intel’s top Core i7-6950X processor that has a clock speed of 3.0 GHz (10 cores).

Thanks.

There's belief that the Titan P will be so fast and powerful that every cpu will bottleneck it.

But to the op, following up on kanewolf, the 6950X won't be slower than the i7 6700k witht the titan p in everything just because of clock speeds. Clock speeds are only part of the cpu, a 6700K won't keep up in exterme multi-threaded applications like the 6950X. Just like how 10 cores does not mean better performance in everything. A 10 core can lose to a 4 core in gaming.

The best guess I would have is that NVIDIA marketing is claiming that for some set of applications, their GPUs are SO FAST now that you are being limited by CPU speed. That is nothing new. If you pair a 980ti with a Celeron you will still be limited by the CPU. They are just saying that now you have to have an even higher end CPU to not be CPU limited. You are always limited by SOMETHING.

Thanks for the responses. I can't find the exact article I copied this from. On my desktop and I posted it from my phone. I have just been looking for info on the titan p as it's supposedly coming out this fall yet? I keep running into similar information in articles.
