I know it's quite an old topic but now that there are a lot mroe games I wanted to ask this question. The PS4 and XB1 are very similar in playing games but I've heard/read that some games run at 1080p at 60 fps on a PS4 whereas only 30fps on Xbox one. Does anyone know what these games are? And does it make the PS4 a much better console?

Solution
Normally third party dev won't drop frame rates, between the system what they normally due is drop the native resolution so if they have a game that will say run on the PS4 1080@60 fps then on the Xbox it will run at 900p@60 fps and the xbox will upscale it to 1080p (similar how 4K TV upscale 1080p signal). There are games that only run at 900p on PS4 then it up scales to 1080p, so the Xbox would probably run at 720p and again upscale to 1080p.

So yes the PS4 is graphically stronger than the Xbox mostly through the use of GDDR5 memory, however I will say this "most" professional reviewers (i.e not some fanboy on a forum) would be hard pressed to tell the different in most games if they were being played side by side even with the...
I thought both generally render at a lower resolution and then upscale to 1080p so neither are usually real 1080p.

Do you game on pc too? With features like Play Anywhere, game streaming and other Windows 10 advantages the XBox although very slightly weaker looks like better proposition now to me. I also much prefer the Xbox controller, especially the Elite.

Of course that assume that game on both systems can Maritain a constant frame rate. As most major 3rd party dev studios don't want there customers thinking they got an inferior product on their system of choice.

So as far as home consoles go the best thing to do is pick the systems your friends play on and also has the games that you want and like to play. If that is PS4 buy it if that's the Xbox get it.

Thanks for a deatiled response! I am leaning more towards the xbox one, to be honest, becuase they have more games that I want to play and that it is cheaper than the ps4 and wanted to know if it was worth it to spend that extra money to "get a better experience" but watching videos on YouTube has concluded that they both are pretty much identical. Also, the XB1 is backwards compatible on loads more games which is great.

Yes I didn't mention I actually have a Xbox (and ps3/vita/360) basically my friends had a 360 and at the time PS3 were way to much when they were first released. Fast forward I still waited a year before buying a new Xbox one didn't want kinect and waited for the controller with the normal audio port.

You can find cheap 360 games that will work on the Xbox and the list is growing not to mention if you do PC (like I do as well just don't have many friends who do) all games published and bought digitally from MS through there store will allow you to play on both the xbox and your PC (only new games is a new feature just announced) just something to think about. That being said I do plan on buying a PS4 but I going to wait for the launch of the PS4 Neo to see what it offers and how much it drops the price of the standard PS4.

Oh wow, didn't know that about the xbox/pc game transfer. That's absolutely wicked! Yeah, I have had both the 360 and ps3 but have had the xbox significantly longer and like both consoles. I've finished school and got like 10 weeks off so want to try out the new(ish) consoles but didn't know which one is better. I was leaning more towards the ps4 but with the xbox being cheaper, play almost identically to the ps4, backwards compatibilty and with that game share, I am definetly leaning more towards the xbox.

I have not seen anywhere saying all games but some, if all that would be even better than I am expecting
