I own an AMD fx 8350 but want to switch it to an i5 6600k or an i5 6500k. Will that be a wise decision? i edit videos, photos and play games. These are my primary concerns. If yes then please suggest me a cheap and good DDR4 motherboard for my build. My current PC specs:
AMD fx 8350
MSI 970a-g43 Motherboard
16GB hyperX fury 1866Mhz Ram
Gtx 970

Thank You :)

will there be a considerable benchmark difference in gaming with the i5's than the 8350? If yes please suggest a cheap motherboard for it which supports at least 2400Mhz RAM (actually i am in a bit tight in budget)

This is significantly faster than the 8350 in every aspect.

Admirable
I can speak from experience here, I had an FX-8350 much like yourself but found that the FPS in games like League, Dota2 and wow were pretty low and I came to the conclusion that it was due to AMD's poor single core processing power I changed my PC so now I own a I5-6600k and couldn't be happier my fps in league went from like 60-70 all the way upto like 350fps once I overclocked my CPU to 4.2Ghz I honestly think its a worth while move having a Z170 mobo and DDR4 ram is also nice :)

If you want a 6600k this is about as cheap as you can get, if you get the 6500 you can get a cheaper board but you cannot overclock. FOr example this would be an i5-6500 setup:

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($33.89 @ OutletPC)
Total: $303.87

As for benchmarks, this is about the best I can do for now:

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-6500-vs-AMD-FX-8350/3513vs1489

Its much faster in the areas that count for gaming.
