Is my CPU usage normal?

I have just built my new PC today and I was just wondering if my CPU usage is normal. It usually hovers around 25-35% when not doing anything. If this isn't normal can I do anything to fix this?

CPU: Intel I5 6600K

Solution
Yah its very insidious, it will keep coming back.

The upgrade is free but you have to do it by July 29, so IMO do it now while your PC is new and you can still have time to troubleshoot.

Don't just go shutting off Windows services, if they are running your CPU then there is something wrong. As GhislanG said check task manager and see what is driving it, let us know and we can work from there. May be a corrupt driver or stuck program or something.

Well whenever I'm not on Chrome the things that take up the most CPU usage are things like NVIDIA streamer user agent, client server runtime process and Avast. I've not really installed much because I just built it today.

Ok but when you first boot the pc, everything loads, you don't run anything, what is running and what % is it taking up. If you can take a screenshot of task manager sorted by largest cpu usage % that would help.

This is my task manager atm sorted by what's taking up the most CPU usage. However, I noticed that when I booted up the usage stayed at 0-5% and after around 5 minutes it jumped up to 25%. I wasn't doing anything, I was just looking at the task manager to see if any process would suddenly appear and cause my usage to go up. I didn't see anything actually pop up but the number of processes went from around 59 to 63 and that's when the usage went up. So, if a process is starting this I can't actually see what it is.

The latest drivers for your platform from Intel. By all means, listen to Rogue Leader's advice, but first get these out of the way.

EDIT: Better yet, upgrade to Win 10.

Check "Show processes from all users" and then sort by processor utilization.

its saying that system idle process and svchost.exe is taking up a hell of a lot of cpu usage and memory. Is that okay to end?

Ok so when you look at this screen after 5 minutes you don't see anything taking up the cpu, but the useage goes up? Are you sure about that? Can you try and get me a screen of both.

Also I agree with Hlsgsz, upgrade to Win 10 its so much better.

What is likely happening there is Windows update is background downloading Win 10. Don't end it it will just start again.

I think you were right. What I did was go into services and stopped Windows Update from being automatic. My usage is fine now. However, I probably will upgrade to 10 in the near future. is the upgrade free from Windows 7 or do I have to buy it?
