Will My CPU Bottleneck This GPU?

My friend is looking to build a pc for dirt cheap. I want to know If a "Pentium g3258" would bottleneck his "XFX Radeon HD 7970 Ghz Edition". I also want to know what the minimum clock this cpu needs to prevent the bottleneck. Thanks.

On single threaded games it will do fine. On more modern games that make use of multiple cores your CPU will struggle and hold back the GPU. It is not related to clock speed, but available cores.

It depends on your game.
Look for benchmarks of the G3258 and the games he plays.
Strategy games, sims, and mmo will probably do better than you might think.
They depend on the single master core for performance.

A G3258 can generally be overclocked to 4.0 using the stock cooler in a decent case.
