Problem with DYDNS NO-IP.org, wondering if using someone else will help.

OK, we are using owncloud (its a open source, locally hosted Dropbox type thing). It works great if we use the IP but as soon as we try to use io-ip.org the whole thing grinds to a halt. Using the no-ip.org domain works fine when we go to the webapps on the server so I think it is working fine, its just when we try to use owncloud to sync files over 500KB it hangs. I am trying to get help on the owncloud forum but thought I would ask here to see if anyone has any insigt about using IPs over DYDNS domains.

I am also wondering if it is worth trying another DYDNS provider.

Using the domain name (URL) from within the network is usually troublesome unless the network has its own DNS server which can point the URL request to the local address of the server. Instead of your devices reaching the owncloud server directly in the LAN, those devices are reaching out to the server via WAN.

Another way is to modify the Hosts file, but that will cause problems if you move the computers from inside to outside network.

Not likely a DDNS issue, but you can eliminate it as a problem by trying to connect directly using the public IP address of your network.

Is the owncloud app running on a NAS server, or on Windows or other OS?

Does it work fine when syncing files under 500kB?

Yes, seems to work fine for files under 500k. Now here is the odd thing. Now here is the odd thing. It works OK when I am outside the network (i.e. at home) using the domain but does not work inside the network using the domain.
