I am building my first gaming PC. I've done some research and come up with this list of parts. Would anyone have any suggestions of why not to use any of these or of a suggestion of other parts?

CASE-cooler master Storm Stryker
CPU-i7 6700k 4.0 ghz
CPU COOLER-Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
GPU-MSI GTX 970 eventually 2 for SLI
MOBO-MSI X99a SLI plus
RAM-Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4
HARDDRIVE-Samsung pro SSD 500gb for OS and my old 1 TB HDD
PSU-corsair hx1000w

Any advise from others that have had experience with building high end pcs would be greatly appreciated.

If it's just for gaming, save a bit of money and go with the i5 6600K and maybe get a better cooler and overclock.

i5 and i7 in gaming literally have no differences, maybe a few frames but there is no major differences look it up :)
Also I believe that you can OC the i5 6600K a lot higher and have lower temps, so if its just for gaming, you'd be better off going with a higher clocked i5 6600k.

Motherboard has already been mentioned. Make sure you use a Z170 motherboard, as that's the only OC'able motherboard for skylake socket (I think).

Power supply is overkill if you use 1 GPU. If you are going to be adding another card and run in SLI then its perfectly fine, however you have to note that not all games support...

Fortunately, I already had the GTX 970 I bought a while back. That's the only thing that I already have for the PC besides the case so far.

Oh well then you can keep it and yeah like noah said your mobo needs to be replaced unfortunately

I'm glad I decided to make a post before purchasing anything else. I'm fairly new to this.

Maybe sell the gtx970 you have when you want to upgrade as SLI always has negatives.

I've put some of your parts into PcPartPicker, Its easier and shows you if its compatible or not.

You need to add a motherboard that you like, anyway, enjoy the PC :)

The CPU has to fit around what you are planning to do.

If it's primarily for gaming then an i7 isn't really needed, an i5 will keep up just at stock speeds.
Overclock an i5 and you'll have a beast gaming rig.

If you're looking into editing and a lot of multitasking, then an i7 should be considered.

Hope this helps :)
