I am looking for a NAS for my house. I think it needs to be around 4 TB. I want to be able to access it from my phone, no idea if you can do that. Is there a dongle I can get for my TV so i can put picture on it and then my TV play it as a slideshow? Will my internet bottle neck my NAS? It runs at about 7 Megabits download, and around 2 megabits upload.

Thank you all in advance

Your internet could limit your remote access (non-local WIFI access from your phone for instance). BUT, your TV or WIFI access from your phone will be unaffected. You can get an HDMI plug-in for your TV that will let you access your NAS if you don't have a smart TV. Something like chromecast.

I like the Synology brand NAS units. Something like the DS216j is a good entry level unit. These are sold without disks. You are free to purchase almost any disks.

+1 for a Synology unit. They're often a good chunk more expensive than the competition, but you get a really solid software suite.

RE "Access it from my Phone", Synology has an app called "Cloud Station" with iOS and Android apps which allow you to access files and folders on your NAS from anywhere. I've been using it for two years or so now. It's not been flawless, but it's pretty good. Updates over the months seem to have ironed out some of the early oddities I ran in to.

QNap units look pretty good too and I believe offer some better multimedia and virtualisation functionality. They're usually a bit cheaper too. But I don't have much experience with them.
