EDIT: Request for someone to move my post to proper sub forum, I was stupid and didn't notice where I was posting. Sorry for the hassle.

Here are my specs:
http://prntscr.com/bstno7

I have two of the intel xenon x5450's in my PC, and honestly am confused as to why it's overheating so hard.

I bought this computer from a company called Micomp (huge mistake, prebuild, ik)

The company shipped it to me with a faulty GPU, I asked about it, and they sent me a new one immediatly, which arrived in 3 days, all for free and without asking for the old GPU.

They are very nice and I'm kinda unsure of what to do.

I used to get blue screens, but upon recieving the blue screen, my PC would freeze, and thus, no minidump or program would read it. The error code was (Stop 0x00000124). In order to restart my pc, I had to hold down the power button for about 10 seconds.

Now, I don't get these bsod's anymore, but instead, just freezing. It sounds like computer is still running while it is frozen though. I'm forced to restart it by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds.

So, I went through ram and various things and finally found out that it's most likely the CPU overheating, so now, I'm unsure what to check. This CPU is very uncommon especially running two of them. It runs at around 60c idle and about 78-89c while gaming. Stress testing it made it run at 100c, yet my PC didn't bsod or crash.

I'm confused as to what is going on. Should I try and call Micomp and ask them to help out? Every product of theirs has a year warranty as long as I don't modify the PC.

I currently have a huge fan running with the side open of my PC and it doesn't help much. I know some things about building PC's and computers overall, but know nothing about CPU's and heating.

Thanks,
Isaac

300$ is okay, I just wanted to make sure they didn't rip you off.

Since under stress tests @100 deg C, your PC does not shutdown or BSOD, maybe the issue is...

Well, I agree but would it be best to try and complain to the company first? And what if that voids the warranty?

Yeah sure if you like, but this is obviously a 2nd hand pc, so I doubt they even checked the thermal paste - its likely the old and dry thermal paste has been disturbed in shipping.

I'll probably make them send me new thermal paste. I'll wait for a bit more input from others and see what they say, too.

Are your CPU fans actually spinning? Look at them while the PC is running.

That's old hardware, the heatsyncs aren't full of dust are they? (No one should sell them that way, but an easy thing to check and eliminate before exploring more complicated options).

In terms of the "investigate yourself" vs "follow up with retailer", it really depends on your priorities. In my experience with post-sales support it's very likely that with some help from the forums here you'll be able to isolate the issue much quicker yourself, however... you're right that if you've been mucking around with thermal paste, etc, the retailer might try and abdicate responsibility. So while it might take longer, it might be worth going through their post sales support, particularly before tampering with any hardware.

I'd still be trying to diagnose the problem myself were I in your shoes, but if you're not in any hurry and you want to be sure the seller takes responsibility, you might prefer to go through them.

To be completely honest, even after looking up how they look and where they are, I can't seem to even find the fans, is there a chance that it lacks CPU fans?

UPDATE: Called and complained, 2 thermal paste kits are on their way. Employee said that if anything else was wrong after applying paste to call and send back the entire PC.

I paid about $300 for the entire setup (including shipping). Primary uses are for gaming, I've hosted servers mainly for a handful of friends and I to mess around on games. Also, I know the 460 isn't that amazing of a card for gaming, but it's a large step up from what I had (GT 610). I believe I can return it still, but I'm not positive.

Since under stress tests @100 deg C, your PC does not shutdown or BSOD, maybe the issue is something else. I guess wait for the thermal paste, and see if that makes a difference.

If the issues still persist, maybe see if you can return it and go with something newer. That CPU is almost 10 years old, and running temps like those it may be nearing the end of its' useful life.
