Cpu that freezes/fps lag on every game

Help me please. When I first built this cpu it was decent, now its really bad its almost as bad as my laptop now which is totally stupid my laptop is like 5 years old

heres my spec:

windows xp 64bit

AMD FX-9590 Vishera 8-Core 4.7GHz processor

Sapphire Radeon R9 270X dual (4GB)

2x 8gb ram

I cant remember whats my motherboard tho

I think my problem could be that my cpu is overheating, because when I let the cpu in the bio at 8 core sometime it will shut down so im guessing its too hot.. I've been searching a couple places and they say that cpu is really hot should I just change it, im afraid that it wont fix my problem...

cooler master, cant remember exactly but it was a cheap one. I dont think its good enough for that cpu... I just did a OCCT test and my cpu drop from 4.7 to 1.4 ghz probably from the heat.. No I didnt try to redo the thermal paste, that could be an idea

with my research I think these kind of processor require a a really good cooler

really wish you can id your motherboard. theres only a few models that properly support the fx9xxx and if you don't have a motherboard that supports it(with right bios version) your pretty much not going to get anywhere.

what also makes me think you have a non support motherboard is not being able to set the clock speed. all the boards I know that support that cpu you have clock control.

also mid to large liquid cooler is strongly recommended for the fx9 series. just to let you know my 8350 can make the corsair h105 do some work.

considering the system worked for awhile really just start with the thermal paste and see if that gets you back to basic usage ok
