Asus Rampage IV Extreme Bricked

Sometime in early May reports came out that a new Microsoft update was bricking particular Asus Mobos. Since I was still using Windows 7, I heeded the advice to wait for the next update that would fix this issue from happening, I.E. I did not update immediately, I waited for the next update. Despite this, since then My computer has worked. When the computer is turned on, nothing happens on screen. The numbers on the MOBO continuously change. Placing the Windows disk in the rom does nothing. It doesn't get to a point where this is useful.

Shortly before this all occurred, I noticed that I had not updated my bios in years (literally-probably 3-4). Yes, I know, I know.

I have searched and searched, and can find nothing that suggested a fix for this issue UNLESS you can get to the BIOS, which it appears I cannot.

I am, by most accounts, a tech amateur. I built this computer in 2012-my first build-when I thought that I's be using it on a daily basis for extremely sophisticated needs. Things changed, and I used it far less than expected. Consequently, I haven't babied it and kept up to date with updates (in general). My point in saying this is that I may need some explanation with suggestions, and I may not understand certain jargon. I am capable (and willing) to do whatever is necessary to get this working.

Finally, if this has been resolved, I'd appreciate a link. I searched the forums using a number of keywords and phrases and could not find anything that related to my exact issue.

Sincerely,
EW

I did not-I thought I actually more or less "could not" do that because my Bios was so old.

If this is confusing, what I am referring to is that my current bios is so old that when I tried to download the new bios in April, I figured out that I first needed the cap converter. But, because it was so old I had to do something still yet a little different. Long story short, I could never find the right file I needed. Asus' website did not have the correct one, and after PMing the only person to respond to another user's post on the Asus Rog website, I put the project on the back burner at the time.

I apologize if I am mincing words here.

So, Am I still able to do this? I don't think I can download the most recent bios, but I can hypothetically update to an extremely old one?

why you need cap converter? asus flashback just need to rename file to use it..
1. download latest bios
2.format usb fat32
3. rename to "R4E.cap" then copy to usb,
4, plug to USB slot which support flashback
5. hold flshback button 3s until led on the release button.
6. wait until rapid blink led then shut off.
7. try to power on your motherboard

So, I tried this and it did not work. Nothing flashed on the MOBO, and the connect light only blinked for maybe 3-5 seconds total.

I did some more digging, and I found this thread (second post) explaining how the .cap file will not work because my bios is too old: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2180108/asus-rampage-extreme-bios.html

When I looked previously, I was unable to find the files needed from ASUS to try to update the bios. I loaded the "newest" .ROM bios, 1404, using the method suggested. It installed (blinking and all), but now when I try to start I am given an error code of 79 (CSM initialization), and still nothing will pop up on my screen.

Where to go from here?

I followed the link and downloaded for 3930K (my CPU model).

Unfortunately, the same thing happened as did the first time. I renamed appropriately, tried flashing, but it only blinks for a few seconds, stops, and nothing else happens (Bios light on MOBO does not blink at all).

The 1404 I have installed now (since flashing earlier today) is later than whatever early bird version I had previously. Based on Asus' website, I should only need something after version 1005. And per everything else I have seen, my MOBO won't read .cap files from flashing if I have a 1404 or earlier version. Right? Unless I am Mis reading this somehow?

Thank you for all the help so far-Any additional help is greatly appreciated.
