PSU has 2 4-pin CPU plugs, and Mobo has 1 8 pin connector - What to do?

In short: the system isn't detecting the RAM (no matter stick configuration, combination, or order), and therefore won't post (Only gives 1 long beep followed by 2 short beeps and flashes red memory LED - manual indicates this is failure to detect memory)

The RAM works and the mobo posts in every other system tried - so the memory's operational.

My only guess is that I'm powering the CPU incorrectly, or not at all, and as indicated by other sources this can lead to memory issues?

Either way, I have a 600w non-modular EVGA power supply. I've connected the 20+4 pin to the main power, and at last I'm left with a couple SATA cords and two four pin connectors each named "CPU".

The problem: The mobo has an 8 pin slot for the CPU with one clip on the right side. The clip is too long to conform with the clips on either 4-pin connector. Both 4 pin connectors are so close together, yet the exposed wires are so short that it's extremely difficult to get both in.

My question: what is it that I must do to power the CPU? Neither clips fit, the slot has eight spaces, I have x2 4 pins labeled CPU, and it's not working. The manual shows either an 8 pin into an 8 slot, a single 4 pin into a half an 8 slot, or a single 4 pin into a four slot.

My motherboard is M5A99FX. I've gone though every other step of trouble shooting, and all signs seem to point towards to no RAM detection as a result of insufficient power to CPU. That, with the fact that I'm unclear as to how the power should be connected, leads me to believe this is the case.

What should I do? How should I plug it? What could be the problem?

My only other option is a diagnosis at my local computer shop - a hurt to my pride for a first build.

@alexoiu The processor is FX series, 8350. RAM is Crucial, no. BLS8G3D1609DS1S00

@carlo_bigtunes I have it set up that way right now, but it took 45+ minutes to cram them together and get them to insert properly without one or the other only snagging two rather than four. I had to use a zip tie to keep them together, but even then they're slightly uneven.

When you say merge, is there something way to hook them onto each other? To re examine them, I'll have to pull them out.

Hi Mike,

I've already got both connectors in, but the RAM remains undetected. The issue is the amount of moveable wire is so short - one shorter than the other - so it's extremely difficult to make them flush as they share the same source.

So they're now it this way, but I still have my problem. I'm not sure if this has to do with the uneven connectors or not, but rightmost one (The one with exclusively non-square holes) isn't quite as straight as the other.
