Need advice/help with a networking issue

I have an asus pce-ac56 network card and the netgear nighthawk 6 router in my pc/house. My problem is that the fist 5ghz band running on channel 44 is not discoverable in my pc available networks list. Anybody know why that could be? Its not really a huge problem I'm just curious why this could be happening. Mostly I would like to see if the unlisted band has higher mbps then my current one seeing as its on a different channel.

What it narrows down to is that if there is some problem/conflict with respect to Channel 44 (and others) then the router will ignore that channel and/or pretend it does not exist.

I.e., the router detects someone licensed is using the channel. Therefore you cannot use the channel and the router responds accordingly.
