as above. aesthetics don't bother me too much so i'm wondering which card overclocks better, has better cooling and is quieter.
any other 1070s you can recommend?
thanks

Solution
1. OC is a matter of luck, some chips can go high, some don't...even from the same brand and type.
2. The difference between 1070 cards is minimal
Pick the cheapest one or the one you think looks best.

thanks. I've seen people recommending to stay away from Asus due to QC and customer service. due you think the worries are legitimate?

I used ASUS for years and never had big problems.
I am one among those, who do not really care about brands but do have a list of brands.
ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, eVGA, KFA2/Galax, Shappire, HIS, XFX and ASRock are all on my list for mobos and graphic cards.
I usually pick the cheapest or by color scheme or dimension for GPUs.

Personally I avoid Asus everything. With how high the cost is on custom pc parts these days passed experiences are everything. I have had 2 Asus motherboards & 1 Asus WLAN card short out on me before. Even without static wristband that's just silly. So idc what they push out I'm not trusting them again until we get out of this technological gap & prices fall down like how they were in 2006

I have been building PC systems since 1995, steadily about 5-10 systems each year in average.
As long you are using well-known brands like ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, eVGA, KFA2/Galax, Shappire, HIS, XFX and ASRock for mobos and GPUs, you will be fine.
Having 1-2 defective items does not mean the brand is bad.

Only 1 is definitely true, the extra price you are paying for ASUS does not really worth it, if you can find cheaper alternatives among the brands on my list.

i've noticed that they are very overpriced. i just liked the look of it. but aesthetics aren't worth that much. problem is i'm waiting for kaby lake to get my new mobo and cpu so i cant be sure what colour scheme to go with. guess i'll have to wait to see what Evga's FTW edition looks like

I just bought a msi 1070 gaming X after struggling between the g1 as well & here's my reasoning why.

1. Price difference is small, msi looks better & runs quieter.

2. All reviews I found on temps/performance between the g1 & gaming X broke even. Even though the g1 has higher stock clock.

3. Some videos show msi>g1 others vise versa, but the main consistency was msi gaming X seemed to have a more stable avg frame rate. While the g1 might peak higher on some games, but avg fps is lower.

4. Videos bellow hope they help

a) Really good review of card

b) Decent card comparison between msi & g1.

If you want I can give you my opinion once it comes in today but I won't have my 1440p monitor until this fall.
