I am currently running a 7 Days to Die server on which I am upgrading this weekend. I am running it on the latest Ubuntu server. I have a Gigabyte 990FX-UDA3 motherboard which i will be installing. I am also purchasing 16gb of ram.

My question is which AMD cpu to purchase. Microcenter has 3 all at the same price point of $89.99.

The first is which I am figuring on purchasing is the AMD FX 8320E Black Edition 3.2GHz Eight-Core

The second consideration is: AMD FX 6300 Black Edition 3.5GHz Six-Core

The third consideration is: AMD FX 4350 Black Edition 4.2GHz Quad-Core

My gut instinct is to go for the 8 core, because go big or go home, however is that the best choice at 3.2GHz or would a lower core with higher GHz be the way to go?

Thank you in advance for all your input and opinions.

That is easy for a server. The FX-8320E as you suggested. Gives you the greatest multi-processing flexibility. Computing cores is more important than sheer speed. Also, the FX-8xxxE series are 95w CPUs keeping your energy consumption lower (and cheaper).

Thanks for the input. I figured more cores over speed would win out, just needed another prospective.

You are most welcome. My home server runs the same CPU and it has been great. No issues at all, I do backups of all connected systems every 24 hours, backup the server the same, perform file sharing/etc, all while running SETI apps 24/7 and nothing phases it (CPU and GPU settings set to use up to 100% of available resources).
