i was thinking about upgrading from an i5-4670k to an i7-4790k so i want to future proof my pc with an i7 of my socket type, i would get a newer cpu but i cannot afford a new motherboard, CPU and RAM

i mainly use my pc for gaming and my cpu usage is all over the place and i get stuttering and i know it's not my 970 causing issues also my 4670k is at 4.2GHz and it runs at around 55-60c while under "full" use

He is right though there is basically no purpose of going from the 4670 to the 4790 for 300 dollars. It just doesn't make sense. Also those defects in gaming are not necessarily because of the cpu. I notice you are running a decent overclock on the cpu...Are you sure you did it properly? it could be causing the issues described.

I bought the computer from Chillblast custom pc makers and it came pre overclocked and it's only started doing this recently also the games i have issues in are games like GTA 5 and Battlefield 1 closed alpha

It is unlikely that a I7-4790K upgrade will fix your problem.
Few games can use more than 2-3 threads so the extra I7 hyperthreads are not likely to be any help.

Yes, the I7-4790K will be better binned and can potentially get you a higher overclock.
But you should be able to oc your I7-4670K a bit higher.

Perhaps you can OC higher.
If your vcore is under 1.30v, you can go higher.
It would not alarm me if your temperatures under load were 70c.

How do you know your GTX970 is not at issue?
Is there a possibility of thermal throttling?

What kinds of games do you play?

Update...
Since the problem has only started recently, what has changed?

All that has happened recently is i installed an SSD and i have had my 970 since February but honestly i am thinking about saving up some money and buying a new system minus a graphics card of course

EDIT: I play games like GTA 5, Dota, Rainbow 6 siege and Overwatch

Do you get these problems still if you remove the OC?
