Hello all. I have decided to build my own gaming PC, but I feel completely overwhelmed with the sheer variety of components available. I came across this site, called "pcpartpicker.com", which enabled me to pick and chose cases, GPUs, CPUs, storage devices and alike from different online vendors and even alerted me of incompatible parts. After about an hour or so I managed to create a rough build: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/cJxCbj. I would very much appreciate it if some of the more experienced members of this community would take a quick look at the build I cobbled together and give me some input, if its not too much trouble. As it says in the header, my ideal build is a 4GB GPU (preferably a GTX 900 series card), an Intel i7 Quad Core processor, and a motherboard able to accommodate 16GB of ram. Thank you for any and all advice and/or recommendations you offer me, in advance.

The parts you have picked are very unbalanced. For gaming performance at that budget, you should get a PC with a SSD drive, RX480 8GB or GTX1060 6GB, better power supply, and probably skylake i5 instead of i7 to save some money without losing performance

that's a tall order for 1K

I would like into something like this
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Niklas_13/saved/#view=63fKHx

also I would wait to the release of the gtx 1060
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/07/nvidia-gtx-1060-specs-price-release-date/

and replace the 970 SSC + for the gtx 1060

the build would play all the new games @ max setting on 1080p monitor no problem

the i7 is nice and the 16 gigs of ram but your build is more cpu then gpu and most games you will get better smoother game play with a better gpu then the 960

+1

The AMD RX 480 would also be good

I just like green vs Red :)

I like Red vs Green, but would recommend any one that is available and has good price/performance- I hope AIB made cards will be available next week from both sides in numbers and all the glory of new features:)

Wow! Thanks! You guys have no idea how much I appreciate this. So to summarize the advice that you two gave me so far:

-Settle for an i5 processor rather than an i7.
-Upgrade the GPU to a GTX 1060 6GB or an RX 480 8GB
-Get an SSD

I have two more questions though:
1. What does the SSD do?
2. When do you think the RX 480 will be in stock again?

The SSD will speed up the load times in games and also make the OS quicker to responded
The gtx 1060 will be out July 19 if you can get your hands on one then , supply is lower then the demand on the new gpu they sell out fast , took me like a month to get my hands on a new gtx 1070 I am at 1440p so its a good match. but its worth the wait.

No clue really , just have to look or be put on auto notify when stores have then in stock.......

I'll just add- don't buy RX480 that looks like this- http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/graphics/radeon-rx-series/radeon-rx-480 . It is an early model from AMD. Power delivery and cooling on them are not made very well. nVidia is also releasing their $50 more expensive GTX1060 founders edition card, also single fan design. But you should be interested in better models designed by AIB companies- these RX480s and GTX1060s will come with 2-3 fans, easy to spot.

I see. Will these better models release alongside the founders edition cards?

nVidia is secretive, but:
1) Some AMD AIB models are coming out on 21-23rd
2) Pictures of nVidia AIB card models started showing up even before pictures AMD AIBs. And there were lots of models of GTX1060s unveiled last week, same like AMD models.
Logically- nVidia AIBs should be ready and coming alongside FE.
