Hi guys i just bought a new x4 860k 3.8GHz and i tried boosting it to 3.95Ghz just to see if temps are cool on stock cooler and what i noticed is that the temps don't go below 50C and when i browse i see the temps jumping to 70 in a matter of few seconds. I tried different software and some show very cool temps meanwhile others show temps between 70-90C (CoreTemp showing me 45C HWmonitor showing me 60-70)i down clocked it to 3.5Ghz and still same then 3.2 etc still same temps... i am using stock cooler thermal paste. Should i be worrying ?Which software should i trust?
Thanks

That is a good cooler. You are fine with...

Do Not OC with a stock cooler. Stock coolers are usually not even enough for base clocks.

AMD chips often have thermal problems when they go above their base clocks as well.

I would put your CPU back to base clocks, go and get a fairly decent cheap aftermarket cooler (dont forget the thermal paste) and install that before you even try to OC.

Yes cpu is now running at 3.3Ghz i can get a cooler at the end of the month. So are these temps true because i want to play games but im scared cpu might overheat and break or smth.. Any advice on how i can make sure cpu is fine until i get a new cooler and i will get the Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Evo i think its pretty good choice for 19.99$

That is a good cooler. You are fine with gaming at stock speeds. Just do that for now. The stock cooler is designed for keeping the CPU running at stock speeds only. You should be able to game fine at stock speeds

Keep it stock until you can get that cooler (again, don't forget the paste if it doesn't come with any) Also be sure that the cooler will fit in your case. Take measurements and get dimensions.

Nope you are fine. I was just making sure you were trying to game on a dedicated card. Some new users try and play demanding games on an APU and think there are additional issues because of the lower performance.

If you get the new cooler, and you are able to OC that chip to where you want and see improved safer thermals. Be sure to vote my answer up as the best solution! I am a badge whore.

Best of luck!

Your first mistake was using coretemp.
The only reliable software for monitoring AMD chips is Overdrive [ and now maybe wattman]
Mostly you just get false readings if you use anything else

You can get a mild OC on the stock cooler . But not too much

Use overdrive to change the multiplier . Leave the base clock and memory speeds alone .
Use a little more voltage if you need to .
Temps are measured in "thermal margin" Thats a measure of how much hotter you can be and still be safe . Big numbers = colder
