I'm building two identical computers using a Gigabyte Z170-HD3P and Intel 6700k (Skylake).

I got both computers built and assembled and plugged them in.

If I boot as is, I get the prompt that a boot drive isn't found, hit any key to try again. (This is expected because I haven't installed Windows yet.)

If I boot with DEL to get to the BIOS,i never get to the BIOS. I get a black screen with an odd triangle cursor, which is my mouse. (I can move it with my mouse.)

Tried resetting the CMOS. That resulted in a message that the CMOS had been reset, but then put me back in the same state as before.

I'm totally stuck. What else do I do too troubleshoot? Of course it could be a bad board, but BOTH computers are doing exactly the same thing, so it's extremely unlikely.

SOLVED. (And yes, I was using a TV.)

Here's the weird thing. I was running an HDMI cable (using the onboard HDMI port on the mobo) to a switcher box that was feeding a TV. When I was seeing the problem above, I saw this strangely stretched triangle cursor, and my mouse could control it. But it could only be moved on half the screen. (If I went into the lower half, the cursor wouldn't go below it, as if halfway down was the true bottom of the screen.)

But I inserted the Windows install USB stick, and saw the Windows welcome screen just fine...on the top half of the screen. This gave me the hint that this was some kind of display problem.

I had limited options, but I did have a DVI monitor in the same room, so tried running the...

I had limited options, but I did have a DVI monitor in the same room, so tried running the motherboard's DVI port to the DVI monitor and now it all worked perfectly. Once I could see the whole screen on the DVI monitor, I then realized that the triangle cursor was indeed part of the BIOS -- but on the HDMI screen I could only see part of the screen, and it was preventing me from seeing any part of the BIOS menu.

How weird that the HDMI to TV wasn't working properly, but at least it's as simple as that, and that's not a problem for my needs. (I was only using the TV temporarily to do install and setup stuff.)

Thanks for the reply, Alexoiu.
