I've had this pc for years and it has worked fine since. One week ago, there was a black screen on boot and that's it. So I checked my motherboard graphics and it displayed everything fine. I booted with new Windows a few weeks ago so I thought it must be a driver issue even though I already downloaded drivers and it was working with them for a while too. So new drivers and same issue. It looks like a graphics card issue. Then I test on another TV and my graphics card works. Went back to my old monitor and changed hdmi cable and everything works again. Now I turn it on this morning and same issue. I change hdmi cable again and nothing. Just to be clear, I've tried everything. New pcie slot, took graphics card apart and cleaned everything new thermal paste etc etc. Also when I used to put the gpu in a pcie slot that I've never used it displayed everything fine but once I restarted nothing again. I do not understand what the hell is going on. All the parts work, everything is compatible, sometimes the motherboard splash screen is there sometimes not. It makes no sense. What do I do? I'm mind <removed by moderator> right now.

Thank you for any help

Hi are you using built -in gpu or a gpu card, the error will come-up in desktop?maybe when you plug your monitor into your dedicated graphics its turn it out disabled your monitor function. Now you need to transfer your monitor connection to the mobo vga port. When you can access your desktop now update your driver using the device manager. Also you can try to use the safemode of your computer if you can. Then access the dialog box by pressing windows key + r , then in dialog box type devmgmt.msc when your in device manager find the driver of your vga card, then update on it. It needs to download the new driver. You need to restart the system, then observe if this will solve.

I'm using a dedicated graphics card. There is a black screen on startup so I don't see anything to begin with. As a result I can't log in. This set up was working a week ago perfectly fine. It just suddenly started giving the black screen. So I don't think the disable monitor function is active. Also, as mentioned first, there have been instances of when it has worked (for example changing hdmi cable) so the disable monitor function cannot be active.

None of it worked. In order for my computer to display anything, I need to remove my graphics card and use the motherboard hdmi. So I can't update drivers for the graphics card since it isn't in my computer. I've noticed when I start with my graphics card there is a white cursor on the top left like cmd but it freezes. With mobo graphics it flickers and then windows boots. So I'm thinking my graphics card is dead but that doesn't make sense since it was working when I changed my hdmi.

Have you try to reinstall your windows? What I can tell to you is to bring that laptop to the service center like sager. Then have them to check the performance of the mobo where the vga chips is installed.

I have ample experience in troubleshooting laptop before and I encounter this problem even in IBM laptop. If your reinstall the windows and have you tried I said, so we need to check the internal hardware like the important chips that generates signal to monitor screen.

I have a custom built pc and I have reinstalled Windows, still nothing. There must be something wrong with the graphics card as the display freezes but it makes no sense because it has worked before when I changed the hdmi cable. Makes no sense.

Hey. Sorry for the really late reply. Anyways, the graphics card s still not working. I tested it on a friends AMD computer and it worked perfectly fine. So I sold it on ebay but the buyer had the exact same issue as me so I had to refund :fou: The buyer had an intel system too so I am starting to think the graphics card doesn't like intel which still doesn't make sense because it was working perfectly fine before. Anyways, I have resorted to integrated graphics, low settings 30 fps :pfff: Also, I bought a new graphics card, radeon 6950 2gb, and it black screens on boot but not like my 7850. With the 6950 it is a total black screen but with the 7850 you can see like the cmd cursor at the top left frozen. I'm assuming the 6950 doesn't work because of my 430w psu but it's not like the graphics card was under load so there should be enough power. I used my freinds 650 as well and that works perfectly fine in my system. After around 50 hours of troubleshooting, I really just don't know what to do. None of it makes sense. Either my computer is possessed or it has tons of incompatibilities between hardware which still doesn't make sense because this system has worked for the past 4 years. GRRR! I'm still open to any help!
