So the RX 480 is out, and it's a pretty nice card. I just recently bought an r9 380x before it was announced though, so I need a few opinions, would you recommend me upgrading to an RX 480 or wait another year or 2 until an RX 490 is released?

depends on a lot of things
first with your gpu at 1080p is my guess are you happy with the proformance and are ok with waiting for a better card

2nd pc specs and budget?

3rd are you planing on doing things like 3d modeling or video editing or is this only a gaming rig and are you planing on upgrading your resolution?

4th anything wrong with the 1070 to you or are you a amd fanboy :p

5th for you a 480 from a 380x is not a huge upgrade as a 380x is between a 960 and 970 and a 480 is near a 970 in proformance

I'm pretty happy witht he 380x's performance
These are my specs:
AMD FX 8320
ASUS R9 380X 4GB
8GB DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
2TB sata HDD
Cooler master hyper 212 evo CPU cooler

I only use this rig for gaming, and no I'm not an AMD fanboy, and I'm not an Nvidia fanboy.
I've been on and off with both companies but I feel like this year has been pretty good for AMD so far so they are my choice at the m inute, not to mention the amd cards are more affordable right now.

I dont really have a set budget, just trying to spend as little money as i can while running games on high-ultra settings at 1080p 60fps. I will consider a 1070.

The R9 380x is a fine GPU, people will still be buying it after the RX 480 release, if the price is right. There is a performance difference between the 2 for sure, but if you can wait to upgrade you will get a better deal latter this year or during next year. Plenty of custom RX 480 to be released, GTX 1060, /rx 470, RX 490, etc. If the R9 380x is enough to carry you through the next 6 months while all the new cards are release and the prices settle down, then you are in a great position.
