External HDD freezes the whole computer once plugged in and will immediately unfreeze once unplugged. I've tried running it on a different computer and I get the same problem. Sfcfix.exe says there are no corrupted files. I'm on windows 7 and looking for any other solutions.

Hey there, dionsama.

There might not be any corrupted files, but unfortunately this is usually the behaviour of a failing drive. You should try the HDD with a different cable as well, just to see if the same issue occurs. Other than that, if it always freezes the whole system whenever it's connected, unfortunately there's not much else you could try. If you don't have data which you wish to recover, go ahead and RMA it if it's still under warranty.

Hope that helps.
