I bought a D-Link PowerLine AV500 Mini Network Starter Kit because the wireless connection where my desktop is and I bought the cheapest wifi adapter so what can I expect. So when my computer isn't turned on the powerline adapter pairs with eachother and works fine, but when I turn my desktop on the powerline adapter disconnects from the one connected to the router and no internet connection is passed through. Any thoughts why this is happening? Is my computer drawing too much power?

The powerline adapter is plugged in to the wall socket next to the one where the powerboard for my desktop is plugged in. Does this have anything to do with it?

Thanks for the answers in advance!

Agreed, powerline adapters once properly installed are preferable to wireless.

Have you tried resetting both of the modules by pressing the 'Simple Connect' button for 10 seconds? Then reinstall them to one another by pressing the same button for 1-2 seconds and also do that on the other module within 2 minutes.

"Powerboard"?

Do you mean one of those multi-outlet/circuit breaker strip that plugs into the wall outlet?

How are you determining that the powerline adapters work fine after pairing and before the desktop is turned on?

Do you need to reset a circuit breaker somewhere to restore the desktop power?

Can you provide a couple of photographs? Or add some additional description/information.

Thanks.

Ok, so when my computer is off, the middle pair light is on indicating the two adapters are connected to each other. When I turn my computer on, the middle pairing light instantly goes off indicating that the adapters aren't connected to each other.

The power to my computer doesn't go off, the connection between the two powerline adapters go off.

Thanks.

However, I recommend that you troubleshoot a bit more. Wifi can be problematic and even slower.

As I understand the photographs the pairing is lost without the power strip being installed. And the power strip is not involved per the third picture.

Are those little switches sitting above the outlets? Or some safety GFI button/breaker?

Try this: unplug the computer and plug in another load. Good lamp for example. Turn the lamp on and see if the pairing goes off at that time.

In my mind that would remove the problem being the computer and place the problem within the outlet(s).

Try two lamps and see if the lamp in the power adapter outlet goes out when the lamp on the computer outlet is turned on.

It almost looks like the outlets are wired (miswired) as if for a three switch or some other setup; e.g. switched receptacle.

Do you have a knowledgeable family member or friend who can look at the outlet and electrical ciruits?
