Hello, a few days ago at my business I everyone lost the ability to drop/copy and paste files to the server's Desktop folder from the other computers in the network.
They can do so to each other, except for the server. In that case, we need to drop the files in the Public folder.

Any ideas?

All computers run with windows 10

Thank you!

i think the defaults were changed between versions of windows.
I think the symptom would be that windows 10 machines could save onto downlevel machines (older winodws versions) but the older machines would be blocked from saving on windows 10.

Windows 10 might have more secure defaults. I would stop the firewall on the Windows 10 client and see if I could make the connection work. (Ie Drop the file on the server)
If it works you know it was being blocked by the firewall on the client and you would update the firewall rules for file and print access

It is an intra net, no domain. Actually, I had already tried changing the permissions and add "write" as well as "modify" permissions to the other users but then I get an "Error applying security" pop up, followed by a "Windows Security: Unable to save permission changes on users".

Not sure if I'm not following or you are not following. I can print anything picked from the server's desktop folder from another machine, I can print too.

What I'm unable to do is drop or copy any file into the server's desktop folder from another computer in the network.

Yes, when you attempt to put the file on a server the client machine will attempt to make a connection to the server so the file can be placed on the server. The connection can be blocked by the client side firewall it if is not configured correctly. Stopping the client side firewall can help identify where the problem lies.

Gotcha, makes sense.

Solution

That error message simply means that the user trying to change permissions does not have the rights to do that. That user must poses "Change permissions" right over that folder. I also assume that you're doing that from the "server" machine, not over the network.
