I am trying to build a pc and i'm not sure if i would have to update the bios?

both of them clearly say on the website that it supports 4th generation intel processors... unless you have some crazy BIOS installed it should work just fine as Intel i3-4170 is a LGA 1150 socket processor

Yeah i only asked because pcpartpicker said Some Intel H81 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs.
