Unable to Switch from IDE to AHCI; Orphaned Windows Boot Manager

I'm not exactly sure where I'm supposed to be posting this but since this seems more like a BIOS issue, that's why I'm here. About a week ago, I had a power outage in the middle of a BIOS update that royally messed things up; the hard drive kept putting out the error "inaccessible boot device". I resolved that problem by restarting in safe mode a few times before finally being able to boot up to the desktop. Since then, I reformated that HDD and installed a new SSD boot drive in its place. Things have been going pretty well since then.

This morning, I was preparing my computer to overclock and the next step was to ensure I was using AHCI instead of the IDE that my mobo defaults to. Once I switched it over, the problems began. For starters, every time I restarted my computer, it would reset what I told it. I tried everything to get it to boot from the SSD but it never would; instead, it would try to boot from "Windows Boot Manager", which was created after the whole BIOS fiasco.

So my question is really two-fold I suppose; 1) How do I get the computer to start in AHCI without everything going nuts and on a related note, 2) how do I get rid of that, or at least stop the BIOS settings from resetting on restart

Solution
You are lucky you have not bricked your motherboard as a power outage during updating can have disastrous effects.

I think it is safe to assume that the power outage has resulted in the BIOS update not installing fully. It is probably worthwhile resintalling the BIOS again.

Oh yeah I know, I was freaking out hardcore with all the issues I had after that. In any event, reinstalling the BIOS took care of eliminating that WBR hanging around in the BIOS and the BIOS from resetting. However, I still couldn't switch over to AHCI, but once I had the other problem take care of, I was able to isolate a solution:

How do Enable AHCI afer Windows Installation
