Hey guys!

I just got me a new system a few days ago.
My current problem is that I keep getting stuttering ingame while the FPS remains at 60.
I could already find out that this is caused by the GPU Memory Clock randomly dropping down to 405 MHz and also the GPU core clock dropping randomly.

Specs:

Windows 10 Professional 64-bit
MSI Z170a Gaming Pro Carbon
Intel I7-6700k @4.00 GHz
Zotac GTX 1070 AMP! Extreme
4x Avexir Core Series LED white DIMM Kit 16GB, DDR4-2400, CL16-16-16-36
Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB
600 Watt be quiet! Straight Power 10-CM Modular 80+ Gold

What have I tried?

- Different versions of drivers (clean installs)
- Underclocking (different stages, down as much as possible)
- Overclocking a little further
- setting the max power higher

Nothing of that has helped with the drops. I really can not think if anything else to fix this besides RMAing the card. However, then I don't know if this will happen again with a card of the same type or if this was just broken.
I also don't know if any other hardware could cause the drops.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

If you need any more information, tell me.

Thanks for your help!

Sincerely,
Rakinare

Are you running the card in out of the box settings? The card is designed to underclock when it doesn't need all that power. Have a play with the overclock settings if you don't want it to underclock and adjust the fan profile too. I didn't like the out of the box fan profile.

What temps are you getting?

Yup, out of the box besides the fan speed that I have adjusted.

It's definitely not underclocking, it's dropping for some random reason, as 405MHz is no way an underclock.
Been playing with pretty much all settings in FireStorm.

Temp is at 35 - 45°C

Edit: Well, I haven't tried overclocking yet. Just did that a little bit and for now it seems stable. Gonna give more feedback soon.

Edit2: Nope, same problem. Only worked for liked 2 minutes.

Edit3: For now it looks like u are kind of right with the automatic underclock. I've been trying it in Rocket League capped at 60 FPS, means the GPU Load was pretty low. Set the cap to the maximum so it has a high gpu load and now it runs stable.
I still don't know why it drops to 405 MHz though. Definitely seems to be a software error.

Looks like for right now I have to uncap all games unless someone can provide a solution to prevent the dropping on low gpu usage.

Edit4: The P-State is switching between p5 p2 and p0 while gaming. Forcing the pstate doesn't work for some reason.
Is there any other way to prevent the pstate switching?

Edit5: When starting Ark:Survival Evolved the clock speeds rapidly changes between idle state and full usage state making my PC completely lag out. Might the GPU be broken somehow?

if u open the psu calculator and put the gtx 1070 it will told you that it need 29.2A on the +12 V cable
i see that your psu is 600w good for this gpu but it has 4 cables 12v 2 of them 18A and 2 others 20A
try to use the coverters that comes with the gtx 1070 to plug more than one cable 12V
and this might work
cz your gpu is now taking less than the recommanded if ur pluging one cable that have 2 - 8pin
this info isn t available on the zotac server but i found it on psu calculator

Hey thanks, that might be a solution, I am going to try that.
However, on full load the GPU is working perfectly fine, so I don't know if that is going to fix it.
If that doesn't help, I will just RMA the card and see if it was the card itself.

Hey,

haven't tried it yet. Do you have the same problem?

Edit: No, did not fix it.
