Hi all,
I am planning on buying an ASUS STRIX GeForce GTX 970 or an MSI GeForce GTX 970. Will either of these be able to run 3 1080p monitors. I plan to game on all 3 monitors at once, games such as GTA 5. At other times I would be gaming on 1 or 2 of the monitors and running desktop on the free monitors. Would either of these cards be able to support this. What card out of these two would you pick and why?

Thanks in advance. :)

Good choice btw. The 480 is aroud or a bit better than the 970, so it wouldn't have worked any wonders in 3x1080p either.
Also, i was not joking about Simultaneous Multi-Projection beeing a must. if you have gamed on multiple monitors, you know how distractingly distorted stuff looks on teh lateral monitors. SMP fixes that. Read a bit in the article i linked. Worth it.

As the other guys said both cards can support up to 4 monitors each but you wont be able to play games at 1080p .because a 970 can max out all games at 1080p with a single monitor . 4k is 4 times the 1080p so 4 monitors at 1080p is 4k . 3times 1080p is 5940x1080 pixels 4k is 3840x2160 or 7680x1080p that's also the resolution you would run with 4 monitors at 1080p (4 * 1920x1080= 7680x1080p)(it is simple maths .tell me if you want further explanations) and to run that you need at least a 980 ti or a 1070 .a 970 is not enough. But with a 970 you can run 1080p single monitor 3 970 you can run 3 times 1080p or get a 1070 and do your job.

Are you sure you want to play with nvidia surround as i myself have 3 screens i run mad so i use eyefinity and few games support it proper and still it gets a bit annoying as the side monitors just looks streetched and blury. for some games like battlefield it works nice but most it just looks weird so be sure you actualy need/ want to play with 3 screens.

And i would go with a 1070/1080 if you want playable fps

Thanks for your replies. Sadly, I think a GTX 1070/1080 may be a little too much (As in cost). Would a MSI AMD RX 480 8GB be similar, as from what I've heard they have slightly lower, but very similar performance?

Please re-read my previous post.

You can get the Asus ,msi ,gigabyte, zotac or evga all 5 has made a big progress in gtx 10x0 .but Asus has made the biggest .i don't recommend buying the founders editon.the progress is like this (in my mind please don't complain about this) asus>zotac>msi>gigabyte>evga all of them should perform about the same but Asus should be the best.

Why don't you recommend the founders edition?

Also, what power supply would you all recommend for a GTX 1070?

My current system is:

i7 6700k @ 4.00GHz
16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2133MHz
Gigabyte H110M-S2H Motherboard
Cooler Master Seidon 120V
120GB SanDisk SSD
500GB Samsung 7200RPM
750GB Seagate 7200RPM
Asus GeForce 210

All that is running off a EVGA 500W.

(As you can see, the GTX 1070 is a hell of an upgrade from my current graphics, Therefore will I need a 750W?)

Thanks

The founders edition runs a lot hotter than the other cards of Asus evga msi zotac and gigabyte .you can overclock these cards to 2000mhz on air with temps around 75c .but the NVIDIA will run at 82 without overclocking .so you need to higher the max temps from 83 to 93 in order to overclock it .and if you do the temps should be aroud 87c. That's why I don't recommend buying the founders edition. I would go for the Asus stric ,msi gaming x ,gigabyte g1 gaming or zotaz amp extreme. All of these are great cards with low temps and high overclocking ability.

The 1070 doesn't draw that much, but i recommedn that you change that PSU because of it's poor quality: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/2tckcf/xfx-power-supply-xfxts550w

I second waht was said above about teh FE cards.

500w should be enough to make the system start .but if you want yo play games on it you need a 650w psu to make sure that you wont run out of power when gaming. If you consider sli you need to buy at least 850w but if you don't then 650 w is want you need. Also try to find one that is at least silver or gold. Grab it and you are good to go.and as I said don't buy the founders edition!!
