Hello I before anyone says save up for Intel I am getting Intel for Xmas.
I am currently on a fx-6300. Should I upgrade to a 8350 for the time being. I will be able to sell it to a friend once I have gone Intel. I'm just wondering if it's worth the upgrade to 8350 and if I will notice a difference.

Solution
Unless you have some explicit need for the extra two cores there is no reason to upgrade to an 8xxx or 9xxx series processor.
FX to FX upgrades are generally a poor decision, especially 6xxx to 8xxx. You will see little to no performance gains.

I recommend attempting to OC the 6300 for the time being, and try to hold out until you can make the platform switch.

In most cases, I would say: no, don't bother upgrading to the 8350. The jump isn't nearly as significant as the one you plan to make come december. If you have a friend who can guarantee that they'll buy the 8350 from you at near to full price, it becomes a convenience thing. Is the $20-30 loss that you take worth having slightly better performance for a couple months? Personally, I wouldn't bother, but if you're really hurting for performance because some of your apps aren't running, it might make sense.

I realize that that's more of a non-answer than any real advice, but it all hinges on your friend guaranteeing that the resale price won't be abysmal. Remember, by the end of this year, it looks like AMD Zen, Intel Kaby Lake might be options. The price of secondhand fx series are definitely gonna go down significantly. Without that buyback guarantee, the 8350 is practically worthless to you.

I was thinking of holding out till Xmas as my partner has told me she will be buying me.
I5-6600K and an MSI pro gaming carbon mobo. I just need to buy the ddr4 ram for it.
Would her build be a good upgrade? I'm going to guess yes lol
