I looked through the threads and didn't see anything actually answering this for M.2. SSDs.

I recently bought a Dell Inspiration 17 (http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/Inspiron-17-7778-2-in-1-laptop/pd?~ck=mn). It came with a 1TB HDD I'm Replacing with a Samsung 950 PRO Series - 256GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD (MZ-V5P256BW).

When I entered BIOS, the SSD wasn't detected as all. I then reseated the SSD and tried again and nothing. I reinstalled the old 1TB HDD, and booted up windows. I then tried installing the driver for the SSD from Samsung's website and it wouldn't recognize the SSD on the computer. I reseated the drive again and nothing. I checked and BIOS seemed up to date, even for a new computer.

Not sure how often the SSD M.2. drives go bad or how to test the drive or port, but any suggestions are greatly appreciated. At this point I'm just trying to get the computer to recognize the drive. I'm spinning my gears here, and plan on calling Samsung tomorrow, but expect that to be pointless.

In the mean time, any feedback is greatly appreciated.
