Hi, i just recently, two weeks ago, got a bigger secondary hard drive for my computer, so i transferred all the files from my old one over, so that i could give the old hdd to my mom. Today, my hard drive suddenly started acting funny, first when i tried to open steam, which is situated on it. Steam would not run or open properly, as well as other executables. I restarted my computer, and when i tried to run steam again, it did not, but my entire secondary hard drive disappeared, as in, i could not even find it in disk management. i shut my pc down again and restarted it, and this time chkdsk started working automatically on that drive. I let it go until it was finished, but it did nothing but keep my hdd missing from view. if i restart and choose not to run chkdsk, the hard drive would appear, but be slow and unresponsive, and i still could not run exes. pictures would open, but that is all. and after a few minutes, the whole drive would just pop out of existence once more.

I have not installed or downloaded any new programs since switching hard drives, but i did have to make a new user profile and transfer everything over to it. also, i have windows 7 on my ssd, not the bad hdd, if you needed to know that.

Hi there desertcolt12,

Unfortunately, there's a chance that the drive is failing. You do really need to back up the most important data stored on the drive. After that, you can test it and see what is wrong with it: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

It may be a good idea to attach the drive with different cables to another port as well.

Let me know how this goes,
