As I said in the video, I tried Ubuntu first, and even tried the nomodeset option. I got farther with the nomodeset option, but the screen still eventually turned off.
I thought that using a Non-GUI form of Linux would work, and the result is what is shown in the video.
I'm trying to recover data from a failing hard drive, and Windows programs haven't worked. I remember using DDRescue to do something similar three years ago on the same laptop, and that worked, which is why I'm opting for a Linux based solution. I have a feeling that this will happen no mater the version of Linux I try.
The GPU of the laptop is a GTX280M, if that helps any.
