I just added windows 10 to my computer and then after that downloaded everything from the Motherboard Cd. I see an option for ethernet but everytime I try to make a connection it says error with modem. My current computer connects to the WiFi without any plugs (no router, ect) how can I make it be like this for my new computer instead? Also I can't even find the option to search for networks

Solution

The 'problem' is that you do not have an actual WiFi adapter installed in your PC.
Your ISP has nothing to do with this.

Do you have a physical Cat5e cable from your PC to the router?

No I have no wifi cables connecting to my computer but I didn't think I would need one since my Imac upstairs just plugs into the wall with no router/cable and connects to wifi

From your PC, there are two options to connect to the outside world

WiFi or ethernet.
WiFi will connect, via radio waves through the air, to the WiFi source. Generally your router.
Ethernet will connect to that same router, via a Cat5e cable. This cable goes from the PC to the router. It may go to a connection in the wall and then to that router.

Is there a wire coming out of the back of the PC? A wire other than the power cable.

In the bottom right you will see a small computer icon, probably with an X over it, right click on that and play around with the settings. If that doesn't help, you may have an issue with wiring or router configuration.

Thanks for the info, and no I don't have any other wires coming out the back so i'm guessing I have to use WiFi not Ethernet which is fine but im not sure how, it wont let me set it up

OK...you have no ethernet cable.
This is a desktop PC, right?
Does it have a WiFi adapter in it? That is actually rare for a desktop, and you would probably know if you did have a WiFi adapter in there.

If you built it, and you did not put a WiFi adapter in it...it probably does not have one.
What motherboard is it?

Can my service provider mess with my computer so it has wifi access? Last time he came over he messed with all my TVs and computers and I'm able to use my imac without any adapted

Why will I need a wifi adapted though when I can connect to wifi with my ipad and phones, not sure how this works :\

SO you need to either:
1. Buy and install a WiFi adapter.
or
2. A Cat5e cable from your PC all the way through the house to wherever the router is.

I just spoke with my internet provider and they are saying I have an issue on my end. I don't have the wifi/airplane mode option because i'm not able to even connect to the internet. On the bottom right there is a computer with an "X" mark on it. I downloaded everything from my motherboard cd but I never updated Bios or anything , what is the problem?
